An old AC isn't priced by brand or by how old it is. It's priced by the metal inside, and most of that is in the outdoor unit: the compressor (a steel shell with copper windings) and the condenser coil (the finned grille you can see from the back).
1. Copper coil or aluminium coil
This is the biggest single factor. Older and premium ACs usually have copper tubes in the coil, while many newer budget models use aluminium to save cost. Copper is worth several times more per kg. Look at the U-shaped bends at the side of the coil: reddish-brown means copper, silver-grey usually means aluminium. We'll check it with you on the day.
2. Tonnage
A 2-ton AC has a bigger compressor and a larger coil than a 1-ton unit, so there's simply more metal. If you know the tonnage (it's on the sticker on the side of the outdoor unit), include it in your message and the price range will be tighter.
3. Is the compressor still inside?
Sometimes a repair shop has already taken the compressor out. An outdoor unit without one is worth much less, so it helps to tell us if a technician has worked on it.
4. Copper pipe between the units
The gas pipe connecting indoor and outdoor units is copper. A long run (say, 5 metres or more) adds real value. Please don't cut it yourself: the gas escapes, and cut ends bent flat are harder to grade.
What doesn't matter much
Whether it still cools, the brand, or a dented cover. We buy ACs as scrap, for the metal. If yours still works well, a second-hand buyer may pay more than we can, and we'll tell you that honestly.

Getting your AC ready
- Photograph both units and the sticker on the outdoor unit, and send them on WhatsApp.
- Tell us if the AC is still mounted, and which floor it's on.
- In apartments, let security know a scrap pickup is coming.
- Keep the remote and stabiliser aside if you want them priced too.
Things that lower the price
- Cutting the copper pipes or releasing the gas yourself
- Letting someone strip the compressor "for free" first
- Agreeing a per-piece price without asking what it would be by weight

How much is my old 1.5 ton split AC worth?
It depends mainly on whether the coil is copper or aluminium, and whether the compressor is inside. See the current range in the rate guide above, then send a photo for a tighter number.
Do you buy ACs that don't work?
Yes. Most ACs we buy don't work. We pay for the metal, not the cooling.
Can I sell just the outdoor unit?
Yes. The outdoor unit holds most of the value because of the compressor and condenser coil.
Is exchanging my AC at the showroom a better deal?
Sometimes. Exchange offers are often a discount on the new AC rather than a real price for the old one. Get our number first, then compare the two.
What happens to the refrigerant gas?
Please leave the unit sealed and let us handle it. Don't release it yourself: refrigerant gases harm the environment and can cause cold burns.
