Motor scrap is sold by weight as a mix: a cast iron or steel body, a steel core, and windings. The windings are where the value is.
Copper vs aluminium windings
Most older and heavy-duty motors are wound with copper. Some cheaper, newer motors use aluminium wire, which is worth much less. You can often tell by looking into the vents: copper windings look reddish-orange, aluminium looks silver. The difference changes the rate, so we'll check it together.
Size matters, in a specific way
Very small motors (mixer, fan) have a lot of steel for the little copper they hold. Mid-size pump and workshop motors usually have a better copper share, which is reflected in the rate.
Compressors are their own category
AC and fridge compressors are sealed steel domes with a copper-wound motor inside. They're weighed and priced separately from open motors.
Common questions
Should I open the motor and take the copper out myself?
You can get the copper rate for the windings that way, but it's slow, messy work and the steel is then worth less on its own. For most people, selling the motor whole is simpler.
Do you buy submersible borewell pumps?
Yes, the pump and motor together. Let us know the length of cable too, since that's copper.
Do you pick up from workshops and factories?
Yes. Send photos and a rough weight, and we'll plan the vehicle accordingly.
